Practice Tip Tuesday:

Do you have a routine when you practice? What does it look like? Having an efficient practice routine helps to build good habits and consistency over time.

Today's Setup: RCP Hybrid Snare 13" Practice Pad / Innovative Percussion TS-PR Tenor Sticks

Tip #8 Warmup, Practice, Stretch, Repeat

Which step are you skipping?

Warm-up: Prevents injuries. Your warm-up will gently prepare the body for more strenuous drumming by gradually increasing your heart rate and circulation, loosens joints and increases blood flow to the muscles. A good warm-up routine will utilize your entire drum set, or percussion setup and gradually increase in speed and intensity.

Practice: Get Better. Repetition is important for learning anything new, and drums are no different. Recent research finds 18 is the number of repetitions required to begin developing muscle memory... BEGIN developing muscle memory. So, 18 is the minimum.

Stretch: Stay Loose. After a good practice session, it's important to cool off and stretch your muscles. This will help circulate the lactic acid that can otherwise cause localized soreness, and will keep your arms and legs limber. Limber muscles will move faster.

Repeat: Do it again!
